This picnic bag was the result of a month long market research project. Our team of 4 designers visited local grocery stores, college campuses, and public parks to interview potential users in our target demographic: the urban escapist. The urban escapist seeks adventure and peacefulness within convenient reach. The results of these interviews and contextual inquiry led to the decision to make a backpack which is easily carried while on foot, bike or public transit. It also includes everything needed for a picnic: a soft blanket backed with waterproof nylon, a wooden core which when removed converts to a table surface and reveals a set of wine glasses and tableware and a neoprene pocket within a sturdy polycarbonate shell to keep a wine bottle safe.
